Swim was one of those songs that came about quickly after a conversation with a childhood friend. We talked about things she had always wanted to do but thought she had waited too long to do them now. My advice to her was to look at it like a river flowing by, as long as you just stood on the bank you would get nowhere. If you jump in and swim then you will no longer just be a spectator and also no longer be in the back of the line. You have to start somewhere and then let the river take you further down the road but if you never take the leap then you will never get anywhere at all.
After our talk I sat down that same night and wrote Swim and set out to record it as a demo the same evening just so I would not forget how the tune went. Once I got started I couldn't stop working on it and the result was a single that I released the very next day.
Since that release as a single, I have received so many positive emails and comments on the song from all over the world. The message in the song seems to ring true with people, no matter what culture you come from and for that I have been truly blessed with this one.
It's a song that strives to give that same advice that I gave my childhood friend the night I wrote it and outlines that conversation with a little of both sides thrown in. Swim is definitely part of my own New Perspective on life and had to be part of my new album.
